Fire Hydrant Fun in Harlem Part

Oh my goodness! Today was amazing! I had no idea, but they turn the fire hydrant's on on our street when the temperature gets over 90. I pulled up from work and immediately called Susan and told her to send Jack down. I knew he'd love it. Unfortunately, when we ran across street, the guy adjusted the spray with a little pvc pipe and it hit Jack in the face. So his first reaction was crying. Once he saw how wet I got though, he loved it. He was pretty sad when we finally had to go inside. Susan was the awesome video woman!

This is soooooooo cool! I Loved it when Jack gave the little boy High Five and you shook their hands. What fun! Was there a fight about to break out in video #6 or 7 with the guy going out into the street... is that why yall backed away? Unsure, looked a little wild and crazy on that side of the street. The young kids looked like they were having a blast.

no fight, pretty much the normal vibe.

I don't know if you know this, but open fire hydrants without spray caps are totally illegal in New York City. They are a danger to buildings on the block--they drop water pressure, and in the event of a fire, the FDNY can have trouble getting enough water to high floors. Caps are free from any firehouse.

God bless, and stay cool!

Hi Mary,

We learned since then that it is illegal. Some people take it upon themselves to open them up, no one will admit who does it. We actually had a problem in our building due to the hydrants being opened. Water leaked into the basement of our building and into the electrical box. Scary! We were without electricity for hours.

Take care!
