2 Months: Twins (and a few extras)

Lillie and Elliott hit their 2 month mark on the 7th. I guess at this rate you can expect the monthly pictures to be about a week late. I did take the picture on the right date, its just finding a few minutes to get it from the camera to the computer to the blog.

They are really filling out. Newborn clothing is getting a little snug and they are comfortably fitting into their 0-3 month sizes. Great Gran is here right now helping us out and over the next month or so we'll have more help coming up. When people are here it makes me wonder how in the world I do it by myself when its just me and the three kiddos. As Gran says "its a 3-ring circus" around here. Very rarely is it quiet. Someone is always crying, needing a diaper change, hungry, wanting a snack, needing apple juice, wanting to "build something", wanting me to "sit right here", etc... I'm still getting about the same amount of sleep. I think we are finally making it to a 4 hour stretch from one feeding to another, its helpful but I'm still longing for them to make it a little longer.

Jack is full of personality. He loves to see what Lillie and Elliott are doing. He asks to feed them, but that really means hold them because he'll find a seat and hold out his hands. He thinks Elliott should be able to play like he does, "Elliott sit here, wanna racecar?" and he told Lillie she was pretty this morning "Lillie, pretty Lillie". He had his first baking experience with me a few days ago, we made chocolate chip cookies. He dropped the butter in and also helped me mix the dough. He also got to try chocolate chip cookie dough, I think he liked it.

Please keep praying for our perseverance to make it through these hard, early days. We are having fun, but we are tired. Pray for strength and energy and wisdom as we try to raise these little blessings. Enjoy the pictures.

I've been watching for these 2 month pictures. They have really changed. I can hardly wait to get my hands on all three of them. I'm excited that I actually have a date that I will be meeting these little sweethearts. Give all 3 of them a kiss. Tell Mom we miss her too but we are glad she is able to be there with you. Love, Donna

Susan, the twins are so cute! I love the picture of them in the pink and blue striped outfits, how cute! I can remember the days of being so sleep deprived with Maddie...I can only imagine it with two. Can you start sleep training them and letting them cry it out at three months since they were preemies? Take care and enjoy all the help you can get!

What a beautiful family and attitude you have! I know this must be so hard (I'm getting ready for a small taste of it myself in about 3 months) but our God is so good. I'm so thankful for His sustaining grace for you during this time. Thank you for the updates, when I'm sure it's not the first thing you want to do!

It's elliot that makes you build stuff, right? that sounds just like him. It's very exciting to watch jack and the twins change and grow every week.

I'm sure it's very hectic, but, again, I admire your ability to navigate through so much happening at once.

Susan, quick question. . . Anna is 6 weeks old and I was wondering if you could share ideas of what you did to 'play' with Jack or the twins when they were this age and older. I am running out of things to do with Anna when she's awake. I like holding her and talking to her and she loves to play on her play mat, sit in her swing (sometimes) and look at her blocks but it seems like every day is a little redundant. Bet that's okay but wanted to hear from you (not that at this time in your life you probably have much 'free' play time and I am sure Jack likes to entertain the twins). Anyhoo, suggestions would be great!

Brittney,

Honestly, the twins don't get nearly the intentional playtime that Jack got. They spend a lot of time in their swing or laying in their bed looking at their mobile. Other times I hold them, but with two of them and Jack running around they have to either be monitored when they are swinging or we have to play when Jack is asleep... if not, he doesn't realize how strong he is and trys to play with them himself.

Anyway, back to your question. From what I can remember you are doing exactly what I did with Jack, except he didn't like the swing, so activity mat and laying on the floor watching whats going on around them, blocks, tv, ceiling fan, etc... that's what he did. It does seem boring and redundant, but that's just where they are. You can move the bouncy seat from room to room and let them get different scenery. There is so much going on around them that its stimulating more than we realize. Once she is holding her head up real well and supporting her back a little better you can move to the exosaucer. That provides lots of entertainment. It sounds like you are real intentional and on top of things. You're doing a great job with Anna from what I read! What I've found from being home all the time with kids (not working outside the home) is that a lot of the days feel like I'm doing the same thing over and over again. I was encouraged by this blog a few weeks ago... http://girltalk.blogs.com/girltalk/2008/06/reflections-on.html
It doesn't pertain to your question exactly, but kind of does. It won't be long before you can advance to more entertaining things with Anna. I was actually challenged when I read your blog the other day on all that you were already doing with Anna. I thought, oh my, Lillie and Elliott are a month older and we aren't doing all of those things in an organized way yet. So you're doing great. I'm still trying to figure it all out with twins and a 2 year old. I'll keep trying to remember if I did other things and let you know if I think of something different. Email me sometime so I can get your address susanbwyatt(at)gmail(dot)com
I like keeping up with whats going on since ours are so close in age. We can journey together. Its fun, hard, but fun. Hope you are still getting some good sleep!
